Travel to Ethiopia has always been full of adventures and surprises. Few years ago, as we travelled to a country side in the northern part of Ethiopia, a first time foreing traveler who sat beside me in a public bus was astonished how high and then low we went in just a few minutes.
Continuously monitoring the elevation with his watch, he whispered to me that he had no experience of such eye catching ups and downs although he claimed he had traveled many places around the globe.
It is true that Ethiopia is not short of contrasts. If you happen to be travelling to Ethiopia, you are likely to come across Ras Dashen of Simien mountain national park, one of the highest places in Africa(4,550 m), and Danakil depression, one of the lowest places on earth(125 m below sea level), in just few hundred KMs of air distance.
The rugged mountains of the north and west Vs the relative plateau landscape of the central and southern, the hotter eastern Vs the modest temperature counterpart in most other parts of the country, the drier north and east Vs the wetter central and west regions are just the few examples of the remarkable contrasts the country has to offer.
While you travel to Ethiopia, dubbed the Land of Origins replacing the age old famous moto of 13 Months of Sunshine, with its magnificent history of being the cradle of humanity, the source of the Blue Nile, the origin of civilization, the birth place of Coffee, and home to a wealth of flora and fauna encompassing endemic trees, plants, animals and birds which live no in other places, you will not just experience a place and history you may not have seen before, you will also be met with a disciplined, proudest and peaceful people with a long history of welcoming culture.
With Ethiopia’s rich destinations composed of history, nature, culture, traditions and life styles, you will have the chance to experience all at once which you may rarely find in many other places.
In a recent write up, Forbes lists Ethiopia among the 7 Rising Stars in Travel in a Post-Covid World with a Potential to Become Major Tourist Destinations quoting the country as having the:
“most fascinating historic background, second civilization on earth to adopt Christianity, history of being the only African nation to defeat a European power in a battle resisting colonialism during the Scramble for Africa, and most earliest human ancestors lived in this fertile region”.
Ethiopia having been the rising sunshine of travel and tourism destinations for decades, it plans to maneuver for post COVID-19 pandemic with renewed preparations the country has never done before.
With additional renovation of destinations and face lift of Addis Ababa, the capital, supported by Ethiopian Airlines, its national carrier, the country is warmly waiting for the travel resumption and its guests across the globe.
