Despite the unsubstantiated claim of the west on the security situation of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the government calls Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia around the world to visit the country during the Ethiopian Christmas holiday season, extending throughout January 2022.
While Ethiopian Christmas falls on 07 January 2022, Ethiopian Epiphany ( Timket ) is celebrated on 19 January 2022 leaving the whole month of January the best season to visit Ethiopia.
To a complete surprise of their own citizens in Ethiopia and elsewhere, official notifications of western embassies in Addis Ababa continues to pressure fellow citizens to leave Ethiopia.
There is no security danger in #Addis to citizens of #US or #Ethiopia. It is disgusting disinformation by the West as a part of a psy-war campaign vs Ethiopia. I have been in Addis for 10 days. Neither I, nor anyone in Addis feels in danger. US State Dept must cease harassment. https://t.co/KSJFMXWi8v

Addis Ababa, the capital, staying calm, peaceful and in business-as-usual activity, millions of Ethiopians continue to question the integrity and real intention of some western governments. Giving a benefit of doubt that western governments might get the messaging or narrative wrong on the current context or situation, Ethiopians have been campaigning in social media and physical demonstrations in major cities of the world. Main stream media, aka MSM, such as CNN falsely claiming of Addis Ababa being surrounded by rebel groups, and denying official apology still to date, it only aggravates Ethiopians’ concern about the real issues.
Tourism having been badly affected by COVID-19 pandemic, the persistent wrong messaging of official channels of western governments will further hurt the reviving tourism businesses putting unintended pressure on employment and economy.
Within all this deliberate western confusion, the government of Ethiopia and citizens alike are pretty much confident to preserve the calm security situation in the country with the exception of the far north. As confident as it sounds, the government of Ethiopia challenges 1,000,000 Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia to come back home to celebrate the Christmas holiday season and contribute a positive role of reviving the dwindling tourism sector and, in the meantime, send a clear message to international communities that there is no as such eminent threat to worry about.

Following the government’s announcement, citizens are not just excited to go back home in time but are also busy campaigning to reach more audiences across all continents. Ethiopian Airlines, hotels, tourist destinations and all sector operators promised to provide up to 30 percent discounts to encourage travelers back to their home country during the holiday season. The tourism ministry, city administrations and regional governments are joining the effort faster to warmly welcome visitors and it is anticipated to be the largest #GreatEthiopianHomeComing call to a nation of more than 110 million people having unapparelled and rich history and tourism potential.
It was just few days away when the pristine volcanic Lake Wonchi recognized as one of the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO and when Ethiopian Airlines, the national flag carrier, crowned as the ‘Best African Airline’ at the 2021 Business Traveler Awards.
