In the middst of COVID-19 pandemic and soon after a law enforcement operation in the northern part of the country, Ethiopia is again prepared to celebrate Gena/Christmas (Jan 07) and Timket/Epiphany(Jan 19) in less than two weeks difference.
While it has been a common annual religious and cultural practice to colorfully celebrate both holidays across the country, Christmas in Lalibela and Epiphany in Gondar have become a preference for Ethiopians to travel locally.

Apparently, travel to Mekele for a mass celebration of Ashenda (August 16-26) has become prominent since the last few years as well until its disruption by COVID-19 pandemic this past year.
This is in fact a reason to believe that Ethiopians want to travel locally if conditions are made conducive. Afro Experience believes that travel to Somali, Gambela, Afar, Southern regional states and the Western part of the country are yet to be explored destinations for a very similar reasons. Beyond leisure, travel is also a means to learn local culture and life style of communities where most Ethiopians should be encouraged to do so.

Travel trends continue to reinforce that local leisure travel is the preference in the immediate post COVID-19 recovery until people build confidence for international and business related travels.
