UAE offers technical, financial support
The Ethiopian government is to show case the country’s investment, trade and tourism potential at the much anticipated EXPO2020 Dubai.
The first Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, EXPO 2020 DUBAI, is set to welcome 192 participating countries, and 25 million of visitors from across the globe with a theme of Connecting Minds, Creating the Future from October 20 – 2020 to April 10 – 2021.
The Ethiopian government has established a national steering committee that facilitates Ethiopia’s participation at Dubai EXPO2020 under the theme “Ethiopia Land of Origins and Opportunities”.
A launching Program of Ethiopia’s Participation at Expo 2020 was held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
During the occasion State Minister of Trade and Industry Misganu Arega said, among many other things, Ethiopia will be showcasing its rich history, cultural heritage, touristic attractions, trade and investment opportunities. Ethiopia will also be showcasing the nation’s touristic attractions from rich and dramatic landscape to astonishing historical heritages. From the second highest point in Africa called the Semien Mountains to the lowest level of the Dankil Depression up to the unique architectural heritage of the rock hewn Lalibela and Sof Omar Cave will be put on show.
Misganu said to organize and coordinate Ethiopia’s participation at the Expo, the government has budgeted resources and also established a national secretariat office composed of experts from various institutions, including, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Culture and tourism, Ministry of Agriculture, Tourism Ethiopia, Ethiopian Investment Commission, and Authority for Research and Conversation of Cultural Heritages.
According to Misganu, the UAE government has provided technical, financial and logistical support to Ethiopia’s participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai. The UAE granted USD 1.5 million for the construction of Ethiopia’s Pavilion.
Mr. Omar Khan, Director of International Offices Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, Expo 2020 is an unprecedented opportunity for Ethiopia to showcase its vast economic potential and boost its global profile.
“Come next October, Ethiopia will join 191 other countries that will be exhibiting at Expo 2020 – a mega event bringing together 25 million visitors from around the world – making it the most inclusive and international Expo in history,” Khan said.
As an Official Partner to Expo 2020, Dubai Chamber is gearing up to host more than 33 business events during the upcoming Expo, including the largest and most comprehensive Global Business Forum Africa to date offering an ideal platform for Ethiopian businesses to explore new business prospects
Mr. Moosa Al Hashemi, Senior Advisor to the Expo 2020 Director General Bureau, on his part said that Ethiopia’s pavilion titled ‘The Land of Origins and Opportunities’ will showcase not only the country’s rich history but highlight the rich future potential that Ethiopia increasingly offers foreign investors, particularly in the flourishing tourism, agriculture and light manufacturing sectors.
“We in the UAE will certainly not be surprised to witness the exciting opportunities that Ethiopia presents to the world. We have long enjoyed a close and mutually beneficial relationship – you remain a vital trade and investment partner for us, not only to your population of more than 100 million people but a gateway to the rest of East Africa,” Al Hashemi said.
“The Expo will nourish and build on that valued partnership but will also offer Ethiopia the opportunity to forge new and lasting bonds with many, many other nationalities who will witness first-hand the wonderful potential that your country offers,” he added.
