Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa, is in the process of unprecedented remake following the completion of Unity Park, Entoto Park and Addis Ababa River side Beautification Projects. These three plus the many ongoing projects reaching at different levels of progress will help the city to reclaim its true name of New Flower.
Three of them being his own initiative, PM Abiy announced the completion of the projects in his televised presentation and he passionately hoped the projects would boost the city’s potential for a tourism destination, local and international alike. Watch the Video below.

Unity Park
Established in 2019, Unity Park is a renovation of the Grand Palace, a compound that has been a seat of the state for more than a century, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It contains myriads of historical buildings (Banquet Hall, Throne Hall, Menelik II’s Palace Complex), Ethiopian Regional States Pavilion, Traditional Garden, Ethiopian Zoo (Black-maned Lion Zoo), historical treasures and plants that date back to the time of emperor Menelik II, the founder of the Grand Palace

Entoto Park
Reaching 3,200 meters above sea level and Packed with many sacred monasteries and dense eucalyptus trees, Mount Entoto is located on the northern rim of the city of Addis Ababa. It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace, before they founded and moved to Addis Ababa. It also hosts Ethiopian Space Science Society. The latest addition of modern restaurants, horseracing, cycling, walkways and many other recreational materials will definitely boost the significance of the park as a tourism destination.

Addis Ababa River Sides Beautification Project
This project aims to enhance the well-being of the city dwellers by mitigating river flooding and through the creation of public spaces and parks, bicycle paths and walkways along the riverside. With the completion of the first round located next to the grand palace as a showcase, the project will run from Mount Entoto to Akaki, developing 56km green spaces along the two rivers, stretching 27.5 and 23.8 kilometers each.

Future Development
The PM announced three additional projects of similar in nature to commence soon in a bid to overhaul the tourism sector across the country: Gorgora, Wonchi and Koisha sites in Amhara, Oromia and Southern Nations and Nationalities regions respectively being the first priorities.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic challenge, Ethiopia is positioning its travel and tourism sector for a faster recovery renovating the existing and adding new luxury sites to its portfolio. It is recalled that the country was named among the 7 Rising Stars in Travel in a Post-Covid World by forbes.
