The Danakil Depression in the Northern Ethiopia is home to the one of the hottest, lowest (112 meter below sea-level) and driest places in the plant. The volcano activates heats spring water, bring up Sulfur & iron to the surface, leaving Yellow, green and orange deposit behind. The climate in Afra region can only be described as inhospitable. But against all odds, the Afar people call it their home.

A must to watch earthly miracle, the Danakil Depression is a geological depression that has resulted from the divergence of three tectonic plates in the Horn of Africa. It is a vast plain and is located in the northern part of the Afar Triangle or Afar Depression in Ethiopia.

Itinerary

Day 01: Fly Addis – Mekelle, watch sunset  and see  salt loaded camel. 
Take the Morning flight to  Mekele , to Tigray Region . Up on arrival, meet our agent at the airport and drive to Hammedela via Berhale. Drive through the desert  and get to the Hammedela late afternoon . Here,  you will go out to meet series of salt loaded camel caravans, and  enjoy sunset.
Meal included : Lunch & dinner
Overnight: Camping under the Star

Day 02: Drive Dallol-Mekelle, witness the lowest and hottest point on plant .
Have an early breakfast,  outing to Dallol where you may witness  colorful sulfur formation in the hottest and lowest  part of Danakil depression , afterwards, watching the activity of breaking the salt from the ground, carving  in rectangular shapes  and loading on camels for long caravan . On your ways, visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Lake Assal, camel caravans, Acidic ponds and spend time at one of the lowest point on earth. Afternoon, return to Mekele town.

Day 03: Fly  Mekelle – Addis
In the morning  out for short tour of  Mekelle. You will visit palace of Emperor Yohannes IV which is changed to a museum. The palace holds all collection of the Emperor’s throne, royal bed, ceremonial dress, rifles, also more valuable historical collections can be seen in the museum. In the afternoon fly back to Addis, Connect international flight or stay the night in Addis. Meal: Breakfast & lunch.
